I swapped the order of Day 14 and 13. Not because I did not want to do Day 13′s task, but because Day 14′s task is very time consuming. We’ll get to Day 13′s task later this week.
Today’s lesson: There is no excuse for medicority on the web. If something you created sucks, go back and fix it. If you don’t, someone who does what you’re doing better will get the audience.
Tweak your posts, pages, and other content. Constantly.
Darren suggests fine tuning your blog’s top posts and key pages. The argument for doing so can be summed up like this: Every opportunity you have to plug holes in your work, take them. Plugging the holes will keep your visitors from leaving and keep them on your site longer.
I won’t go over everything Darren says here, but since I advocate that you use Thesis for your website, I want to add a specific task that is not included in the Day 14 assignment.
When revising your pages and posts, make sure you have filled out the “SEO Details And Addititional Style” form and the “Excerpt” forms.
Thesis is built to be SEO (search enginge optimized), so make sure you get your money’s worth by taking advantage of the opportunity to fill out these forms.
With the “Excerpt” form, sometimes this is the only bit of information a reader sees about your posts, and if it’s just the opening paragraph which trails off, you may lose a potential reader.
Tweaking. Remember? Make constant tweaks to your post and page’s content, and if you use Thesis make sure you have both of these forms completley filled out. These tweaks will keep readers from leaving your blog behind in the race for attention.
And if you really want to go nuts with your Thesis SEO, there is an excellent tutorial here from Remarkablogger that I highly recommend.
