I skipped around certain parts of 31 Days To Build A Better Blog. Is that the best way to read a business book? What activities did I skip? Find out here.
How To Read A Business Book (And Why I Did Things Out Of Order)
1) If you don’t like the book, don’t waste your time with it. That doesn’t mean give up on something difficult or something you must learn, it just means that if you’re not learning or enjoying yourself, you’re wasting your time.
2) Yes. You have to read the whole thing if you stick with it.
3) Who said you have to read it in order? Read a chapter that captures your interest, then another, and then read the book from start to finish.
Activities I Did Out Of Order Or Skipped From 31 Days To Build A Better Blog
Day 13: The mall exercise. I simply have not done this as well as I’d like, so you will see this post coming in the next several days.
Day 15: Find a blog buddy. I solicited folks via Twitter and have found a number of guest bloggers. I think you should find a blog buddy. So many of us give up on our blogs after a few months, creating a broken leadership and marketing situation that puts you at a disadvantage.
Having a friend to back you up and write helps during those long stretches where nothing exciting is happining.
Day 17: Watch a first time reader use your blog. With Twitter, new people see my blog everyday, so I have been getting enough feedback to make changes. A great example of this would be the new Soap Box Included archive, which is now easier to navigate to find our site’s content.
Day 19: Write an opinion post. I’m all over that one. Are you?
Day 21: Breathe new life into an old post. You should do this one regularly. Once you have set up an archive page, take some time to slowly tweak your old posts to catch mistakes, tighten up arguments, interlink your posts, and do a little SEO where you can.
Ok. Now we’re caught up.
