ASCAP, as per Gawker, will begin to collect revenues from bloggers and other social publishers who share Youtube videos featuring their content.
Since ASCAP and BMI represent two of the three largest music industry publishing associations, that means soon we will have to play a fun little guessing game called “Guess Which Youtube Embed Will Get You Sued?”
So. If you have been looking for a reason to check out Vimeo or Viddler …
And if you don’t think the music industry will come for you, just ask Jammie Thomas and the terror the RIAA has inflicted on her
But Wait. Here Is A Music Industry Approved Solution!
Don’t worry music lovers, there is a Hulu-like music video site and partnership called Vevo coming that you can safely embed without worrying about the police coming to your door. Right now Vevo is limited to Universal Music Group.
