So Much For My Friendfeed Book!

Sometimes, someone ruins your plans.

As you might have read, I was working on a book about Friendfeed. I thought the service had legs and could become a powerful search engine that would rival Google and Microsoft. Being able to find out what your friends are saying about a product in real time? That’s an awesome business model, and Friendfeed has this controlled chaos approach that allowed you to filter things, making it more useful than Twitter’s search interface.

By now you know, Big Evil decided to continue staining the soul of the Internet and purchased Friendfeed. Although Friendfeed will remain open, it won’t be long before it disappears as quickly as it came.

So, the demise of my book’s subject, and the fact that it’s now linked-up to a company less trusted than the crazy guy riding the bus with a samurai sword, means I must find something else to write about.

Since we’re starting a new month here at Soap Box Included, and it’s the first year since 1998 that I’m not writing new “college survival” material, we’re going to spend the month crafting a book proposal, pitching it, and documenting the process here.

Hold on to your non-existent ten gallon hats, the fun begins tomorrow.
