I like the idea of doing a weekend update for the project. The videos are alright, but until I can do them well enough, I rather do posts.
September was an interesting month for us. The big debate was about sponsorship vs. crowdfunding.
Since we have a long time between now and July, it gives us flexibility to pursue both options and adjust as needed.
I’ve never had much luck with sponsors. Of course, I never knew what the hell I was doing with them until 2007, and I’m not the one working on this portion of the project, so we’re doing pretty damn well so far. It also means I don’t have too much to talk about until it’s over, hence the lack of updates.
I can tell you I’m excited to be working with some of these wonderful companies, and thrilled about working with some of the other ones we’re chatting with.
At the end of this, the only difference between crowdfunding and sponsorship is how many business cards are available to the general public. Remember they’re $1 per card and we’ve sold over 1,000 of them. For a lot of reasons, the Pledgie number is not accurate. Originally the cards were just available to people and small businesses, but they’re now available to sponsors as well.
So, the intention now is to finish the “sponsor phase” of this thing by the end of October and then make the remaining cards available to the public or a new batch of them.
Keep in mind that, of the cards sold to the public, I hope to donate $50,000 to InvisiblePeople.tv and another $50,000 to Blame Cancer (which is the organization @Drew is setting up with #BlameDrewsCancer).
The rest goes toward funding the parts of the project not covered by sponsorships (or if we’re not successful, the project itself.)
Expect to hear more from me soon. Until then I’m working on my (not so secret) book project, Astonishing Tales Of Mediocrity, and helping as I can with this process.
