Why Do I Tweet Comedy Links (And Friday’s Roundup)

Background:

I still tweet out inspiring and informative links, but I’ve shifted more towards sending out funny links. Why? Because:

1) When we first started getting big on Twitter … thanks to Twitter, we were volunteering for a small not-for-profit and on the road promoting the early detection of breast cancer. When we came back, we had a whole lot of people following us who didn’t quite know who I was and what I do. Which …

2) Gave me some folks who are the wrong audience.

Not everyone, mind you, but a big pocket of people who want to tell you about what’s right and wrong, but not lift a finger to do anything themselves.

Folks who are narrow minded and want to criticize based on their limited world view. Can you believe people get mad when you promote the early detection of cancer?

Boy they do!

But here’s my favorite: Folks interested in how to get rich using “social media”. Sure, I’ll help you learn how to use the tools, that’s what this website is for, but if you’re looking to be Trump-rich? I’m not your guy.

In other words: For all the talk out there about the suggested user list and Twitter directories that rank people based on how many followers they have, people often overlook the fact that there are negative consequences to being ranked high or being on the A-List.

I hope tweeting comedy links and stuff that I personally enjoy will push away some of these folks.

The Twitter balloon continues to deflate anyway. After coming off the list I lose about 3-500 followers every day. One can assume a significant portion of them are spammers being swept from the system, but I hope every time the numbers go down that it’s the wrong people packing up and following someone else.

3) I have a book I’m looking to put out and make The New York Times Bestseller’s list.  I’m hoping by tweeting funny stuff I’ll attract more followers who will potentially buy the book if / when it comes out.

So to kickoff the weekend, here is the first Friday Funny Link Roundup. I’ll catch you Monday.

Brandon’s Tweet Of The Week:

Amanda wants to get the cats Halloween costumes. I told her not to be one of “those” people. (September 29th)
