Follow Friday Is Dead

No bullshit social publishing news and opinions. Follow Brandon.

I’ve given some advice in the past on how to manage Follow Friday. So, if someone hasn’t beaten me to it, let me be the first to say: Follow Friday (as we know it) is dead.

Your Twitter experience is better for it.

Here’s Why

Follow Friday was a great discovery mechanism , but it quickly got too noisy, and half the time you wouldn’t know why someone was being recommended or if you should follow them.

With Twitter Lists, which everyone should have by Friday, you can simply place all your Follow Friday recommendations on one list and then tweet out that link.

This transition will take time, but I would be shocked if a month from now, people are still doing Follow Friday the old way.

Participate In The New Follow Friday In Five Easy Steps

1. Make a list of the people you want to recommend. It can be as long as you want, but I encourage you to keep it short and simple.

2. How do you put someone on your list? Go to their profile and click on the new list button. A menu will show up asking you to place that person on an existing list or a new list. Make a new list and call it “Follow Friday”.

If you want, you can also date your lists. So, you could have “Follow Friday October 29th 2009″ if you want to change things up each week.

3. Repeat this process until everyone is on the list you want to share.

4.  Go to that list page, grab the URL, and tweet it out followed with the #followfriday tag.

5. You’re done! Don’t forget to archive your list links somewhere, like on your website or on Facebook.
