Look Familiar?

OMG! News!

Did you hear about @StuffMyMomHates? It was started by a comedy writer who used to blog for a well trafficked (and awesome*) blog, but this is the first and only time you’ll hear about that.

She also writes for a pretty popular women’s magazine too, which did an interview about this Twitter account.  I can’t possibly imagine these two things having any sort of connection to the following story.

@StuffMyMomHates received a huge boost on Digg, landing on the front page, then went viral when credible sites like The LA Times and credible people (re: real celebrities with big followings) talked about it. So that’s why we’re talking about it. Because we’re hip and relevant. Right? Right. Actually, forget this entire paragraph. It contains facts and we need facts like Facebook needs more features.

So @StuffMyMomHates got a book deal! A book deal! OMG! Social media is crossing the threshold! But … oh wait. That’s old news. We just had to mention it so we can put a link back to another one of our posts about this account. Back linking is where it’s at bitches! But get this:  @StuffMyMomHates now has a TV Deal!

What? Did you expect us to say something else? Because now we’re going to show you our favorite tweets from @stuffmymomhates to fill space and keep you on this page longer.

The longer you’re here the more we can charge our advertisers because we can claim we have a low bounce rate and people stick around when visiting us. How sweet is that? Lying is totally awesome.

And hey, we’re going to go into the backroom and eat a unicorn to celebrate. Do you want some leftover hoofs?

We can even send you the horn, but only if you click on the five thousand or so ways to share this article with your friends. They should come here so we can send them somewhere else for actual information. They’ll love you for linking to us and so will Google. Praise Google!

*I really like the @ShitMyDadSays account. I think, unlike a few other memes to go mainstream, that it’s funny and can do well as a book and television show. I wish Justin nothing but the best, or as much as you can wish someone the best without actually knowing them.

I was a fan of his work at Holy Taco, so at least I can say I was following the guy before all you punks showed up and ruined things by following @ShitMyDadSays. Eat it fuckers!

**OMGIJSMP: Oh my God I just shit my pants.

Well wishes aside though, as far as the reporting goes? This Is Bullshit. Do Better. I found all of this within five minutes of some Google searches. You can’t take five minutes to get the facts, connect the dots, and then publish your story?

Wait. I forgot who I’m talking about.

Disclaimer: This post is not targeting a single blog, it’s an overall statement about how many blogs (and other tech pundits) claim the mainstream media is dying, or that they’re the new alternative, report news.
