Allegedly, Microsoft is going to unveil their own Tablet PC this Wednesday. Made in conjunction with the folks at HP, the idea is to steal some of the thunder from Steve Jobs and the Apple Tablet’s debut this month.

Can they “out-Apple Apple”?

No. Microsoft can’t “Out-Apple Apple”. The same way most entertainment company’s can’t Out-Disney Disney.

It’s not that Microsoft is going to show you a bad product on Wednesday.  It might be awesome. But Microsoft doesn’t have an unholy legion of the night that praises their every move. They never cultivated such an audience, and God knows they’ve done plenty in the past to chase away potential acolytes. They also don’t design the way Apple does.

Ditto for Disney and … well, just about anything Disney produces.

Same deal when it comes to you and your competitors. The best advice is to not try to out do your competition. The approach should be to take what you think is the best product and pitch it as such.

It’s not us vs. them. That only works for so long (just ask WCW). The people who win? They have the best stuff, they know they have the best stuff, and that’s where there focus is. They don’t give a shit about the competition, and you shouldn’t either.

By putting your best offering out, that does all of the talking for you, and if your product is good enough, no one is going to be talking at all, they’re going to be buying from you.
