It’s a new day here at Wounded Warriors Family Support, and as always, I have a pretty ambitious goal. You all know I’m not a fan of Facebook. Beyond work with the WWFS Facebook Page I haven’t done a hell of a lot with the platform.
That’s not really news if the demographic information about Facebook’s membership is to be believed. A lot of Millenials are not under the same spell many Baby Boomers are when it comes to Facebook.
We grew up with it. As far as we’re concerned, Facebook ditched us for money and fame.
But as a business tool? Yeah. You have to be there. And in Wounded Warriors Family Support’s case, that’s where our audience is.
So I thought I would occasionally update you on our Facebook Page’s progress and how close we are to meeting our goal.
What’s the goal? By January 26th, 2011, I want to have a quarter of the organization’s donations come through our Facebook Page.
Of course, if we exceed that, awesome. If we don’t? Not so cool, but I’ll have plenty of information to work with that I can use to improve on thanks to Facebook Insights and Involver’s analytics. More on Involver later.
And why should you be concerned with Facebook and not the others? Facebook exists outside of the social networking life cycle. In fact, it’s way past due for an exodous, and I guess that’s happened with the younger crowd, but quite the opposite is happening with the majority of folks living in America.
So, the folks out there talking about a social networking monopoly are right. Facebook is it, and aside from something truly ground breaking I doubt Facebook will lose its place any time soon.
That means we have to get on it from a business and not-for-profit point of view. Whether we like the platform or not. There shouldn’t be a shock that the biggest increase in Facebook Pages are from small organizations looking to get on the trend.
If you’re not on there now with a Page, fix that. It won’t be any good for you to signup late in the game and get shut out by larger competitors.
